Care India

CARE seeks a world of hope, tolerance and social justice where poverty has been overcome and people live in dignity and security.

CARE is one of the world's leading humanitarian organisations fighting global poverty. CARE is independent, non-sectarian and non-governmental. For more than half a century, CARE and our partners have created meaningful change for millions of people around the world. CARE has projects in seventy-two countries around the world with a CARE International Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland. CARE International Secretariat co-ordinates the efforts of twelve autonomous member organisations in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

CARE's mission in India is to facilitate lasting change in the well being and social position of vulnerable groups, especially women and girls.

CARE began working in India in 1950. As the development context in India changed, so too has CARE’s work. Today, despite India’s strides forward, millions go hungry and without the resources to make a decent living. Underlying this contradiction are issues of unequal access and discrimination. Therefore, much of CARE's work is focussed on developing lasting solutions to poverty by strengthening the most vulnerable populations. CARE works hand in hand with vulnerable families, especially women and girls, to help them access their rights.
